During Februrary 2025, I was artist in residence for a week at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh during which time I had several conversations with the resident astronomers:
My time there was concluded with a lovely informal discussion with Andy Lawrence Professor Regius of Astronomy at Edinburgh University. We covered a range of topics: Ruben Observatory LSST camera deep mapping of the sky, ESA's Euclid mission exploring the composition and evolution of the dark Universe and his personal specialism … black holes.
In addition to Professor Lawrence’s established areas within astronomy he is now involved in issues relating to space environmentalism in particular light pollution and debris from satellites and has published a book on the topic: Losing the Sky (2021).

A conversation with Prof Andy Taylor whose main research interests are: Theoretical and Observational Cosmology, in particular studying Dark Matter and Dark Energy with Gravitational Lensing, the nature of the Dark Energy, the analysis of Large-Scale Structure in Galaxy Redshift Surveys, the temperature and polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background, and the Early Universe and Cosmological Inflation.

Dr Cassandra Barlow-Hall gave me a wonderful and vivid explanation of black holes sucking everything into their vortex with brilliant luminescent light … take care out there!!
